Creating Bright Futures for MBA Students

Vinay (Vince) Khanna recently made a gift to support Wayne State University’s MBA program. But it pales in comparison, he said, to the gifts he received as a student, many of which have lasted a lifetime.

He arrived at Wayne State from India in 1971 after receiving a degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India, to continue his education and complete his MBA.

“It was the first time I had traveled out of my country. Wayne State gave me a secure foundation and place to be, an education, a social network and so much more,” he said.

Vinay designated Wayne State as a beneficiary of his IRA. After his lifetime, his gift will go to the Mike Ilitch School of Business’ MBA program.

“I left it at the discretion of the dean…to use in whatever way they decide is the greatest need at the time. I trust them to use my gift in the best way possible,” he said.

Vinay sees his gift as a big thank you to Wayne State for preparing him for a successful career in management in Silicon Valley and as a visiting faculty member at universities in India.

He wants his gift to encourage others to see that their generosity will make an impact. Every gift adds up, he said.

“As we grow the bucket of donors, hopefully it encourages others to do the same,” he said.
